Thread: Boot fails due to degraded RAID

i have set new ubuntu 11.10 installation machine
machine contains raid system installed single ext4 partition on seperate drive

machine ran 10.04 installation before , boot fine if raid not assembled

boot fails mdadm complaining degraded raid , jumps initramfs emergency shell

whenever disconnect disks part of raid boot completes fine

why?

raid not mounted during init nor listed in fstab

10.04 assemble raid disks marked spare , thusly have raid inactive after boot
far better solution now, because machine not boot anymore of raid desynced due powerloss or other nonfatal issue

is there reason left 10.04 lts move newer 11.10 (hardware, older packages, etc)? otherwise, i've stuck lts releases on servers. if it's working, don't fix

aside, have set array boot degraded, , installed grub on second hard disk?
