Thread: Newbie needs advice on swap space location
i preparing install ubuntu (with dual boot) on slave drive in existing windows xp pro pc , reading installation instructions. plan put related ubuntu on 2rd hd, while leaving related windows xp pro on c drive.
have 3 questions:
(1) hard drive ubuntu swap space allocated on?
(2) windows xp pro's system restore option able restore prior mbr before installation of ubuntu?
(3) after setting windows-ubuntu dual boot option, pc still able boot windows xp pro if 2rd hd pulled off line?
1) located on whatever hard drive decide set os on, on swap partition, considering when installation prompts you, chose install on swap partition. how many hard drives have installed master , slave?
2) can use fix mbr restore master boot record, why need to? if install on seperate hard drive, chose hard drive install on upon boot when select new boot device. if chose same hard drive, safest way install on separate partition, created prior installing first os on first partition. now, if haven't done that, can boot windows, , open linux install cd inside windows, , chose 'boot along side partition' option. although i've heard isn't recommended
3) second hd wouldn't require second partition it, unless want make confusing. install second hard drive, , create brand new partition on second hard drive. @ boot chose hard drive instead of other 1 switch between os'es. @ point, i'm thinking of installing second hard drive. i've seen tooooo many posts trust grub more, not mention current grub issue.
