Thread: Re: X11VNC - LightDM version of GDM KllinitClients = false?

hi guys, newbie forums here.

i've been turning old lenovo thinkpad upnp server xbox 360 few days trying different distros, apps , servers see fits what. i've decided xubuntu easiest started , i've managed auto-mount shared media usb hard drive , set startup entry ushare in rc.local thing can't crack getting 'x11vnc' server run @ boot...

i've been following great guide:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-488207.html

there's vital step stop x11vnc closing vnc session log in client (am correct?)
- you need set killinitclients=false in /etc/x11/gdm/gdm.conf

i'm running newer install of xubuntu, default window manager in fact lightdm doesn't let me same above. there solution similar above works lightdm- or should rather switch gdm - isn't heavier on light server setup... , bit drastic such small tweak though?

without above gdm tweak, when try log in client [realvnc viewer windows] on pc, never asks me set password, straight away says connection ended unexpectedly.... seems x11vnc run @ startup ':0' screen indeed in use, unaccessible.

have log in ssh? don't know start ssh vnc client connection though, tried use putty ended unexpectedly... furthermore did try set -reopen parameter in x11vnc doesn't change much.

work when logged in on host computer, i'm able type 'x11vnc' without sudo , works on client computers straight away... have restart application though beforehand because of pre-set during boot ':0' screen doesn't let access it.

problem want able turn laptop on , have working without touching after turning on, , able access vnc client @ time during it's uptime- through @ least password protection or ssh if can working. it's not in best place fiddle things on actual computer itself, i'd prefer gain access computer in house.

hope put in right forum!
in advance guys!

gdm removed killinitclients feature years ago. kills them.

x11vnc tries avoid being killed gdm , does.

collect x11vnc output using -o /path/to/logfile option, recreate failure, , attach logfile thread.
