Thread: Update Manger Failed to Download repository information

hello,

noticed desktop computer had not been asking me install updates of late on ubuntu 11.04. manually went update manager , clicked check button "failed download repository information check internet connection" , under details has following:

w:failed fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/user/java/u...source/sources 404 not found
, w:failed fetch http://ppa.launchpad.net/user/java/u...-i386/packages 404 not found
, e:some index files failed download. have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

i'm assuming related java?when try apt-get update following:

e: some index files failed to download. they have been ignored, or old ones used instead. 
internet connection works fine know shouldn't problem. appreciated!

any suggestions? because of haven't been able update system 41 days

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
