Working with slow span columns in ID CS6

i've created document displays spinning beach ball up minute , half after every action make.

 

i've determined online research main reason slow down usage of span columns feature.

 

the common solution not use feature, layout requires varying columns within single text flow.

 

does have tips how work around limitation?

 

i have 60-page story text frames set 2-column.

 

there 1 or 2 small essays on each page , each one's title , author lines set span columns.

 

i'm considering several options:

-making text frame 1 column , splitting body text instead

-recreating document scratch, perhaps it's corrupted.

-making each essay it's own text frame. pain, faster current document.

-cutting title , author , putting them inside anchored text frame

 

any others have run issue appreciated. in advance!

that feature requires lot of processing while program figuring out how compose page.

 

how breaking document chapters book feature you're working on fewer pages @ time.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
