Thread: 11.10 w/Gnome Fallback: network icon disappears when mobile broadband is connected

i think i've found bug want mention here in forum first see people have before go , report officially.

fresh install of ubuntu 11.10, gnome session fallback installed (and i'm logged in using it). notifications applet works fine volume, battery state, bluetooth. network icon works expected wireless (wifi) , ethernet. however, when enable mobile broadband , connect using huawei usb stick (globe tattoo globe telecom, philippines), connect network network icon disappears. there's still space in notification applet network icon should be, , if mouse on space still functionality: can see available networks, disconnect , reconnect, right-click , connection information or edit connections, etc. there's no icon there more. not happen when log in using unity, may bug in gnome session fallback rather ubuntu 11.10. haven't tried in other versions of ubuntu can't download isos on slow 2g connection (3g doesn't appear available live.)

icon there when i'm not connected, animated icon there while it's connecting, vanishes "connection established" popup notification appears.

noticed bug connect internet via our wifi router , adsl , use mobile broadband back-up when there's issue our telco there now.

computer dell inspiron 6400 notebook intel video chip, intel core duo 2ghz cpu, 4 gigs of ddr2 ram, 120 gig sata hard drive, external usb mouse, external usb 750 gig western digital hard drive: pretty generic, older hardware.

way, followed these instructions installing gnome fallback , doing few other tweaks gnome , desktop, (personally, don't mind unity though find mildly annoying way icons on left disappear , reappear depending on whether program full-screen or not, , dislike lack of taskbar showing open tasks (programs), unity in time used to. however, share computer wife who's "power user' not techhead, needed make desktop , feel more windows her.)

i'm using lubuntu 12.04, , network connection icon disappears when connect mobile broadband.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
