Thread: Help with samba server

hello community,

first of linux noob, quite computer literate.

wanted create samba server on ubuntu 11.10. followed documentation on ubuntu website , i've done:

i've set workgroup = workgroup
set security = user

made directory in mnt called "backup" path /mnt/backup

created little section @ bottom so:

[backup]    comment = backup    path = /mnt/backup    browsable = yes    guest ok = yes    read = no    writeable = yes    directory mask = 0777    create mask = 0777

with setup, can see computer "ubuntu" on windows explorer (on windows 7) , can see share called "backup". can write files folder windows however, if create directory inside "backup", can't write anymore. there way make whole of "backup" 777?

don't mind security atm because i'm in small home network. shouldn't setup allow clients read/write/execute? how come can't write shared folder?
