Thread: No password hashes found (John the ripper)

hello all,

i've installed "jtr" , have created original unix passwd file using

code:

sudo unshadow /etc/passwd /etc/shadow > passwd_shadow

i added password /usr/share/john/password.lst file , ran command.

code:

john -w=/usr/share/john/password.lst -rules passwd_shadow

, received output

code:

no password hashes loaded

is there doing wrong?

you using unpatched version of jtr. since linux uses sha hashing algorithm, need apply patch supports this. alternatively, can download/install community-enhanced version, should come patch applied.
