Adjustments not working

opened 8bit grayscale image in i'd adjust threshold.

using ps essentials 5.1 (fresh copy - no messing preferences yet)

the threshold adjustment has preview checked can see i'm going get.

however, once click ok image reverts before adjustment.

what happening here? never happend me in cs1 - piece of cake.

 

i appreciate can get.

what’s photoshop essentials? mean elements?

if please refer appropriate forum.

 

does issue arise if view @ 100%?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
