Premiere Pro cs6 playback is suddenly at half speed - help!

many of files project imported final cut pro, has never been issue. it's been weeks of flawless use. evening, tried opening project , quit unexpectedly; error message telling me adobe premiere pro crashed report etc. shut down hard drives, unplugged them, plugged them in, re-opened project , suddenly... every timeline playing @ half-speed! audio slowed down , video stutters , moves slow. pretty scary problem. can't seem figure out. tried rendering preview files. no go. suggestions?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
