Thread: After installing Skype, KDE effects are gone

first, pleased kubuntu. thought it's alternative unity. right after installation, many problems , crashes came up. it's awful. instance, installed skype on fresh install of kubuntu 11.10. after that, desktop effects gone. no 'illuminated' or transparent windows anymore. there fix?

solved. skype installer, reason, removes packages of plasma-desktop. somewhere read has skype being 32-bit appliation. weird. anyway, had re-install plasma-desktop:

sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install --reinstall plasma-desktop
after that, had re-enable desktop effects. works fine. , kde icon-tasks app rocks

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
