this situation have tons of music on lucid.
sister visiting me , want put music on external usb hdd has mac.
1. can read write mac external usb hdd... , how?
2. better format 250gb hdd (which don't have yet) fat 32

suggest.

i'd stay away fat32 if value data.

linux can read , write hfs+ formatted drives if journaling turned off. if drive formatted journaling enabled, journaling can turned off in os x. once turned off, can read , written ubuntu no problems. time.

might need install packages hfsplus, hfsprogs, , hfsutils.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
