Thread: Migrating to Ubuntu

i used hate ubuntu, restricting, dictating how system should (at least saw that), , fixed releases, chore.

guess getting older now. work takes time, reading new legistrations, new cases, writing essay, readin , commenting essays... noticed don't have time tinker system. becaming afraid system break tha new update. system great, had lovingly created command line , used years; said, priorities change.

before forget tell you, using arch linux. , great, not me anylonger. sad me =(

so, migrating ubuntu. installed it; , contrary expectations, liked unity. said, don't want spend time searching manuals, reading forums , all. questions:

  • do have problems distro updates?
  • i long time user of 7digital, way connect account ubuntu one?
  • where can put startup scripts? i've never used debian (i have used arch exclusively decade suse here ant there), small manual aimed experienced linux user should great these kind of questions have.
  • how ubuntu handle power management?
  • how ppa thing work?

these "laundry list" posts (list of unrelated issues) not work well.

if have specific issues want addressed, works better if confine each thread 1 issue.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
