Thread: No Network
no network, should solved, however, i've been @ hours no luck.
i'm talking wired network here, not wireless. seems has questions wireless.
1) have ubuntu 11.10 (that 2011). 64bit.
i've checked cables works plugging xp laptop. cable fine , ubuntu shows no network available.
2) tried setting manually local ip address etc...no go.
3) have spare pci nic, tried , disabled on-board network chipset in bios....no go new card used work.
4) know, run off boot disk. download latest ubuntu increasingly useful xp laptop , boot on that...still no network!
5) have old 9.04 ubuntu disk install next existing ubuntu...nope, not want it.
kinda reluctant clean install have many tweaks , fixes wine software etc... take week set again.
not fantastic on terminal commands have tried these few things.
6) sudo service network-manager stop
followed start....still nowt
run out of ideas, i'm sure there million things can try, @ moment easiest install xp , forget troubles have been using ubuntu years , fix somehow.
bios somehow? i've been through bios , reset taking out battery etc... there nothing obvious there.
7) tried desperately add cd of latest ubuntu repositories did not update that. thoughts might re-install network services me if other installs of ubuntu don't work either else can be?
please?
