what should/shouldn't work? there restrictions on work under live cd?

take plunge , try 10.04lts on oldish atom acer aspire one.

being total noob, , not having high confidence, thought first play around live cd before taking plunge , doing proper install. live cd loaded fine , able play desktop, except 2 things:
- not change screen resolution
- wireless did not work

both these items assume need find , install correct drivers.
however, right assume since cd read-only, can't update drivers in live mode? shouldn't worried didn't work out of box? user doco installation says "try out", short on details expect.

if connect wired lan, should expect work in live mode out of box?

sorry total noob post - i'm asking questions , haven't installed yet! in advance.

if install wired connection. odds better, wireless work.

wired connection best.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
