Adobe Reader xi: transparent toolbars and scrolling issues

recently upgraded v9 v 11 on pc. adobe reader starts , opens pdfs. however, toolbars normlly appear @ top of screen not; instead there space toolbars desktop visible instead of toolbars. rest of adobe reader visible on screen, e.g. text of pdf document being viewed, toolbars don't appear; instead can see through desktop toolbars be. toolbars are, in other words, transparent rest of adobe reader visible. other symptoms:

 

- on scrolling within pdf text of pdf becomes blurry , repeats down screen

 

- after moment acrord32.exe error.

- tried upgrade adobe flash 11.7.700.169 , install failed: 'unable load application configuration'.

- during system restore crashed loosing previous restore points; may coincidence.

 

 

background

 

- adobe reader v9.5.1 worked fine pre upgrade

- in 'add/rempove programs' v9.5.1 still installed; if try uninstall get: 'this patch package not opened. verify patch package exists , can access it...."

 

- running on xp sp 3

 

- date withwwindows patches

 

- microsoft virus scanner date; no viruses

 

- desktop classic windows blue

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
