Changing folder location and burying AVCHD files
i'm coming premiere working in indesign several years, , expected similar overall styles of operation. it's pretty close, there differences, of them detrimental in opinion. below i'll make few statements (s1, s2…) , know if correct or not.
i can package project in indesign , linked files gathered in folder called links, , put project file in folder name chosen user. copy packaged folder anywhere on computer, open project, , automatically linked files inside links folder inside same folder project file. neat, user friendly system.
s1: in premiere can specify "package" folder location, cannot specify folder name.
s2: when packaged project file first opened, premiere cannot automatically link files in same folder (or subfolder) itself, if relink 1 file others in same folder.
s3: if change name of folder, or move it, premiere won't know files are. you'll have relink @ least 1 file.
s4: when relinking in s3, display exact name matches does not work.
when project packaged, why premiere bury avchd files in new folder structure? advantage of doing that? example, standalone file called myvideo.mts (which extracted avchd structure of camera), ends in myvideo.mtsbdmv > stream.
my recommendation forget indesign paradigm. things different when working video , solid state media. should media management outside of pp using proper file manager windows explorer or finder, , put assets given project desired location before you import pp. should keep solid-state media intact, never changing, deleting or renaming inside folders come off card.
