How do I create Dynamic TextFields in LiveCycle

i need create form contains text fields loaded via data merge unidata database. these text fields may contain data or may not. if there no data, text field needs disappear (i.e., take no space on form). if there data, text field need grow contain data placed in (there can 1 n lines - amount of data load unknown until merge takes place). i've flagged fields "allow multiple lines" doesn't make them grow. i've checked "expand fit" box on verticle axis doesn't appear @ all. there way make these textfields grow , shrink?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
