How to scan as a simple, image only?

using acrobat 9 pro canon mx310 mfc scanner.  have been unable scan document simple, ol' grayscale image only.  no matter options try seems acrobat tries optimize file removing noise, converting text areas selectable text objects (thus removing bitmap region).  while appreciate it's trying results terrible , i'm not interested in trying make work.  want scan page full bitmap , have result pdf page big plain image page.  nothing smart, no ocr, etc.

 

this used possible, in fact used default few versions ago.  can tell me how restore functionality?

oh, , if you're thinking it's driver don't think is: when scan mp navigator , other limited scanning applications scan simple image.

you can scan photoshop.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
