Thread: 11.10 change refresh rate

my first experience of 11.10 - avid ubuntu user, , reasonably practiced in using terminal, etc. no expert, bit better "average" user.

fresh install of 11.10.
monitor old , has had problems correct refresh rate being detected in ubuntu. detects several refresh rates, 60,68,70,75hz. in fact, 75hz works. in previous versions, had go system, preferences, monitor , choose correct refresh rate.

in wisdom has removed function 11.10.

search google.

advised use command "xrandr -r 75". brilliant, except changes last until log out or restart.

others advise installing ccsm , changing there. seems have no effect, , there no coherent instructions "average" user.

is, quite frankly, ridiculous. have tried several methods, combination of has totally messed fresh install. result: 3 hours spent on 11.10 , can't @ screen , need reinstall. next know, support ps2 mice , keyboards removed "everyone uses usb nowadays". farce!

can help?

i think need write changes x windows system.

not sure if that'll fix problem, looks worst can right break broken system :\
