Thread: Is ATI HDMI driver limited to stereo only?

folks,

setup:

asus f1a75v-pro motherboard + amd a6 cpu. motherboard has integrated hdmi out port.

box connected pioneer av receiver in turn connected overhead projector.

when install windows 7 on box , apply drivers, 5.1 setup works perfectly. testing of each individual speakers work fine.

however, past 3 days, have been struggling getting audio work under ubuntu.

ubuntu 11.10 install displays blank screen. suggestions (nomodeset, etc.) did not work.

ubuntu 11.04 installs cannot ati fglrx driver install. number of errors. without driver, appears cannot speakers work @ all.

today, tried 12.04 daily build. installed fine. fglrx driver installed properly.

however, under sound preferences, see "hdmi digital stereo output" option. there no hdmi 5.1 option.

when run "speaker-test -c 6," can hear front left, center, , front right speakers only. there not sound other speakers.

have tried many setting posts on various forums nothing seems work.

added following line /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf:

options snd-hda-intel model=3stack-6ch-dig

however, seems option meaningful intel/nvidea , not amd/ati.

appreciate if can tell me if ati hdmi limited front speakers or there missing?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
