Thread: Where to start?

hello, wise , honorable ubuntu forum members!

i'd open thread apology me, positive you've seen thread or many others @ least dozen times over. apologize convenience, annoyance, frustration, or of may cause you.

onto real subject of thread. 16 year old high school student has great interest in computer programming, web design, , computers in general, , build future career around those. first exposure coding writing html design basic webpages neopets when in middle school, when spent summers on computer trying on , on of web page right, , must admit lot of fun.

haven't done of since then, interest , desire again remain in mind, , it's around time begin looking @ colleges , want life, revisiting it. trouble is, despite multiple google searches , asking of friends , family , experienced it, have no idea start.

i'm not sure if want focus on program development or web development. because honest, have equal amount of interest in each. i've been told several websites , people should study perl programming, , javascript web development. after that, i'm not sure should go first.

retain basic understanding of html time @ neopets , times revisited it, other have no real background knowledge coding languages. i've done multiple google searches , read several different websites, tell me different.

looked @ guides here in programming thread how learn coding, , got more lost , confused.

help, hoping better idea of start.
