LR Performance Advantage Dual vs. Partitioned SSD?

hey folks

 

looking boost macpro system performance , want transfer lr catalogues ssd.  running mac os , applications single ssd catologues on separate wd caviar black hd.  considering switching larger , faster ssd, partitioning os/applications on 1 section , lightroom catalogues on other.

 

are there performance gains achieved running os/applications , lr catalogues on physically separate drives, or single partitioned drive suffice?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
