Thread: Add New Items to xfce4-panel no longer working

hello,
on machine i've been running xubuntu 10.10 time now. had replaced xfce4-panel avant window navigator (awn). i'm considering switching xfce4-panel (referred panel here on) improve startup speed (specifically time after login).

started xfce4-panel, killed awn, added few items notification area (systray). found quit button in panel quit panel , not system. started awn again, rebooted using it's quit button (saving session state). after logging in got warning of notification area being present (because there 1 in panel , 1 in awn). ignored that, killed awn , rebooted again (using working quit button on panel) save new session state panel , without awn. when logged in again, had no notification area on panel.

since i'm unable add items panel. no systray, no launchers nothing. add new items window works, when drag panel, nothing happens.

ideas why may happen?

i believe need add "launcher" panel first drag .

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
