Thread: Launching Terminal in Ubuntu 11.10 freezes system

firstly, hello all! first post, seems appropriate.

secondly, i'm relative novice ubuntu world, bit of dabbling geek - suspect it's dabbling has put me in predicament, i'd appreciate assistance/thoughts people might have.

now, problem @ hand.

upgraded 11.10 , experiencing serious performance degradation started fiddling compiz suspected weedy nc10 struggling. fiddled quite bit, including accidentally removing frames compiz constructs around windows. around same time, having issues loading gnome-terminal taking eternity, , annoyingly starting in desktop.

anyway, removed desktop wall feature, , gnome-terminal doesn't show @ - starting locks processor, display updates (mouse movements etc) incredibly slow, , have been resorting full restart!!!!

i've looked around online couldn't find on terminal having problems in 11.10 - lack of knowledge of linux in general exposed, can help??

hi, more terminal believe need reset unity , compiz here link, may have reinstall unity, ubuntu-desktop , compiz.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
