Thread: SSH'ing as root from one VM to another

hey everyone,

i'm running 2 identical ubuntu 10.4 vms vmware , need able ssh 1 other root.

i've got openssh 5.3 on both systems , sshd_config wired permit root login both.

when try ssh root either system. i'm prompted password. when try put in password, following:

"permission denied, please try again"

i've grabbed output /var/log/auth.log , says:

"jan 4 15:18:41 ubuntu sshd[6465]: failed password root 192.168.136.150 port 51162 ssh2"

know must missing something, not sure is.

, yes, i'm sure i'm putting in right password

are *sure* have right root passwd?

mean is, when use "sudo" uses *your* password.

on target system, have run "sudo passwd" set root password, right?

have 6 ubuntu machines, , 3 additional ubuntu vms, , had use ssh on of them "sudo apt-get install ssh" , can ssh root of them (using "ssh root@mysystem" , supplying root password).

sorry if response basic, since you're connecting far enough prompted password, rule out network configuration, , openssh should detect encryption, should default on both ends, anyway, leaves account or configuration issues.
