Thread: Ubuntu 10.04 dual boot with Win7

hi all,

i've been trying co-worker ubuntu dual boot on laptop windows 7.

since windows7 on there, put in unbuntu install disk , apparently did not see windows 7 partition because running ubuntu no signs of windows 7.

i'm not sure went wrong here. i've done before on own computer, albeit older 1 i'm working on have done before.

part of original issue our fantastically clueless manager put windows on single 20 gb partition, filled capacity. wanted run ubuntu , got wubi, didn't realize applications running wubi fail miserably because of inherent limitations. trying work 3d movies through projector...

recommended making separate partition ubuntu alone.

made 120 gb partition ubuntu separate windows partition, ubuntu's installer didn't see surprised me.

obvious going have start on here...

installing windows 7 first, , ubuntu on separate partition...

how make sure works right?

also, 10.04 network applications not work @ after install. ethernet cable not recognized this.

first sit down , calculate how space of hdd want dedicated win7, , how ubuntu. if installing win7 dvd can select partition size, if use recovery partition how it's designed it.

if installing dvd make sure create win7 partition size want allocated. don't let take whole hdd. if there partitions, delete them , create 1 ntfs size want win7. leave rest of disk unpartitioned. not create ntfs partitions linux, doesn't install on ntfs.

after that, boot ubuntu installer , select use largest available free space option when asked install. use unpartitioned space , create root , swap partitions itself.

if need more specific partitioning layout have use manual option when installing, not of auto ones.

it's weird wired connection doesn't work. wired adapters work out of box, depending on adapter.
