Thread: changing my external monitor to primary monitor...but its a lot more complicated

so have dell inspiron 1420. screen got damaged point see little part of top left corner. considering costs decided use tv external monitor. considering how fun , awesome be, installed ubuntu 10.10 , removed windows off laptop. @ point, had laptop hooked tv via s-video , audio through cable converted microphone wire red & white component wires. using wireless keyboard , mouse , been pretty fun. 2 weeks ago decided buy projector. setup running extremely well. decided remove original laptop display (its fun carrying laptop part around- parents shocked lol).
here problem (i've had since tv): though ubuntu recognizes projector external display, if switch watch tv on projector (actual live channels) , return laptop (simply unplugging s-video wires) after hour or so, laptop no longer recognizes external monitor. external monitor mirrored default (its monitor found- since 1 connected).
thinking if somehow changed s-video input (projector) laptop should recognize project original monitor? possible go bios (or somewhere) change monitor laptop recognizes every time books if not using ubuntu?
want install windows onto laptop (then try windows 8 ) i'm afraid laptop won't recognize projector monitor since projector still external display , all. know confusing/frustrating/challenging still pretty new ubuntu , might have 1 shot @ fixing problem.
please help, , if have questions, ask!
thanks!

what graphics have? if don't know, run in terminal , post output:
code:
sudo lspci
