Thread: A few basic questions about ubuntu and unity

hi,
trying out ubuntu 11.10 unity on t420 laptop there seem few issues:

1) secondary monitor needs manually configured every time restart computer (sometimes when log off), settings window on blank secondary screen.

2) enabling effects (wobbly, cube etc) compiz causes unity crash, bars disappear everywhere. alt-f2 not work , don't know how reset unity virtual terminal

3) sort of unusable menu pops left side of screen. behaves randomly when there more 1 instance of application active.

can 'keep' few applications on 14' laptop screen , contains button opens randomly sized transparent black window on screen if click on it. want go required (running) application 1 click.

4) cannot place on desktop

5) cannot configure stuff right clicking on (why need go somewhere else that?) why can stuff configured 7 different locations. why stuff not work after configuring 7 different locations?

6) every application, menu, panel, window etc etc looks , behaves differently. required click once, required hold down mouse button, cannot clicked @ all. every program looks different own scrollbars, buttons , layout. that?

7) login screen split in half , background image messed up

ideas on how fix of issues?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
