Thread: Login Broken

i can't login main admin account. main gdm login menu choose me account name, enter password , end on login menu.

running ubuntu 10.04 on desktop integrated intel video , integrated sound.

in main admin account installed skype , went preferences-->startup applications-->options , clicked remember running applications make skype start @ login. got ps3 eye work video , audio after googling. plugged in , rebooted changed pulseaudio input device analog output , digital input ps3 eye selected default input device. far good. tested in skype options , sound recorder...all good.

unplugged usb cable eye , screen went blank...nothing worked. did hard reset , got login screen, after typing password there pause, screen goes black if login , right login screen. other accounts let me login no problem not main admin account. have tried failsafe session , xterm session..same thing - right login screen.

update:
have been playing around , have been able account in console.
after failed login attempt ctr+alt+f7 shows few lines of code on screen, last few of are:

*(in red) pulseaudio configured per-user-session [ok]
*enabling additional executable binary formats binfmt-support [ok]
*checking batter state... [ok]
^ (pointing @ ] after ok

screen frozen @ point allows keyboard input (which doesn't have effect on anything).

ctrl+alt+f8 @ point brings me login screen. ctrl+alt+f1 brings me tty1 , can login main account in text only. @ least account still there , accessible, apparently not through gdm. again, other accounts working normally.

have access still @ loss how fix problem or next.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
