Thread: Recurrent fsck errors
hello all,
yesterday laptop running 11.10 lost power , result shut down unexpectedly. when started attempted run fsck on ext3 main partition, failed , mounted read-only. plugged drive mac , tried run e2fsck -v on partition, started report "short read", "zero dtime", "incorrect refcount", , other such errors. answered "yes" "fix?" questions reported "filesystem still has errors" @ end of run. ran again, , received more such problems e2fsck exited , able boot. did not find missing data.
several hours later kernel panicked , forced restart, encountered same fsck error. running e2fsck on mac again , getting more errors , "fix?" prompts weren't there first time around.
know sounds hardware error, disk 3 months old i'm suspecting else may problem os. if hardware error i'll send in warranty replacement selected ecryptfs when installed ubuntu think may need use actual os recover data. question is, sound hardware or software error; if software, how fix it, , can recover ecryptfs volume on different os?
in advance,
--actorclavilis
since subsequent fsck runs still return errors indeed suspect hardware problem. depending on how using laptop, laptop hdd more fail desktop hdd, since laptop moved around. first thing make backup long able access data.
