Thread: Run ubuntu in RAM?

hi. wondering if below possibe. think result in great speed improvement on newer machines lot of ram , fast cpus.

install ubuntu. /home on different partition
add , remove packages keeping size in mind. (large programs compiled on hdd using --prefix?)
compress / (-/home) "file".

boot system copying compressed "file" ram , mounting , running there.
wrie "shutdown" script copy compressed "file" ram hdd , shutdown when finished.
understand if computer not shot down work lost, thats not necesarily bad thing, if harfull changes done @ least you're safe.
write "save work" script identical "shutdown" without shutdown.

system have know location of /home on harddrive.

swap on hdd assume?

if has necessary knowledge make happen please write tutorial?

there don't know, or missing make impossible or not worth doing minus long boot , shutdown times?

suppose similar principle live cd.

not tutorial, moved installation & upgrades.
