Thread: Urge to switch to Ubuntu/Linux environment questions

i have done searching situation present in moment of articles have found rather dated. or pointers in right direction appreciated.

running small shop off esxi 4.1 (free) needs basic.
(small shop being 5 local 1-2 remote users)
prior migration plan update esxi 5.0.
aware of limitations in regards specialized software ie: peachtree , quickbooks.
there inherently still need keep few windows based machines around.
migrate more linux based environment overall.

reasons migrate:
reduce software upgrade/update costs.
enhance security updating existing software.
(running server 2003 exchange 2003 w/ xp clients running office 2k-2k3)

goals wish accomplish follows:
centralized login capability windows , linux clients/server
(is possible?)
account bound access restrictions centralized file storage
(for windows , linux client/servers)
email server w/ av & spam filtering
(what top choices , perhaps comparison)
vpn+rdp access windows client
(teamviewer or vnc best options know of remote desktop sessions)

note: may add list can think of off top of head.
