Thread: Windows vs Ubutnu for home storage / media server...

i thinking setting expensive file / media server our home sometime in mid late 2012. primary purpose serve software raid server host movies, songs , other files, , stream on-demand. purpose of raid redundant backup. advantages , disadvantages of each option ? far see, following apply:

windows home server 2011:
easier setup , file sharing
software raid support out of box

ubuntu server 12.04 lts (when comes out):
price (free)
software center - lots of open-source programs available

why not small office/home office nas appliance? set want , bunch of things hadn't thought of, , has linux under hood.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
