Figure of eight design

hello there, have idea want create figure of 8 filmstrip type effect using photos i'm not sure start.

i've found design , i'm wondering how created it. idea create kind of shape using 3d bevel , emboss , map art, that, can't overlapping sections go in front or behind other don't think.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
