Group items with out changing the layers

i want group items, move , ungroup again. after ungrouping, items on 1 layer.

possible group items move , ungroup keeping them in same layer before grouped them?

thanks help. 

i don't think possible. might possible script.

 

perhaps check on scripting forum if there's way group set of items script - when ungroup script releases them original layer positions?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
