How do I make my color adjustments look Good?

if adjust colors on footage layer either using curves/satruation/color balance or using layers of color of coice , blending them, colors absolutely rubbish , fake.

ilm or other professional production house have skilled people in ever aspect of workflow. starts way before lighting , shooting , know want , how it. if recorded uplanned mess iphone camera, no plugin or tutorial in world give ilm look.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
