Moving Location Of RAW Files, Maintaining Edits?

i have quite large amount of original raw files need move off internal hard drive. have 2 external drives mirror each other storing files more securely, , have copied raw files (quite long proccess) over. tried setup new catalog new workflow, not thinking lightroom doesn't mess original files, , have lost edits. still have original catalog , raw files still on internal hd, need know how move on , keep edits? have redo in lighroom directly? or there easier method?

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
