Need help adding a vignette to a video

hi all, spent hours online looking tutorial shows how to  feather video's edge. example, imported video clip on cs6 timeline. want create a  circle vignette around video. if select video , use eraser tool feather around video, applies effect on 1 frame when advance timeline. there way use eraser tool on video , apply

i create "vignette" applying layer mask images layer (if background, change "regular" layer). create layer mask elliptical marquee tool (can constrained circle), feather, want.

 

that create vignette on chosen image layer, , if there nothing below that, on transparent.

 

if wish have image vignetted over, white, add color adjustment (set white), below it.

ps - method has advantage of being non-destructive.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
