one of many reasons changed os microshaft linux every ten minutes prompted annoying window update latest version of adobe reader or other adobe product. did many searches on how disable , there no way done.

don't see happening linux microsoft windows xp , rest allows happen , not linux?

often , software versions in ubuntu repository not updated until next release unless needed . reasons updating may vary.

adobe reader proprietary , updated due security issues , these vulnerabilities specific windows operating systems . flash , people exploit weaknesses , adobe fixes them , cycle goes on , on .

don't see adobe reader in 11.10 software center , guessing repository have enabled install . don't use adobe reader in windows or ubuntu because there lighter alternatives both suit needs.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
