i have netbook dual boots ubuntu , windows xp. happened , during boot "error 15" display , boot stops. netbook not mine , don't know caused situation. don't have experience linux.

boot live ubuntu cd , find following :

/etc/fstab has

#<file system> <mount point> <type> <options> <dump> <pass>
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
# / on /dev/sda7 during installation
uuid=62a80b49-39fe-4a5f-8d3f-989faibc441e / ext3 errors=remount-ro 0 1
/dev/sda6 /media/cdrom0 udf,iso9600 user,noauto, exec,utf8 0 0

wonder if instead of uuid(62a80b49-39fe-4a5f-8d3f-989faibc441e) there should /dev/sda7. partition ubuntu boots.

/boot has not subfolder grub. has other files like
abi-...generic
config...generic
initrd.img...generic
memtest...bin
system.map...generic
vmcoreinfo...generic
vmlinuz...generic

ideas on how fix dual boot was?

error 15 error legacy grub, has not been used in ubuntu time. version of ubuntu have installed on netbook? if not sure, , since seem able find way around live cd, have @ contents of /etc/lsb-release file in sda7 ubuntu live cd. tell you.

not necessarily. long quoted uuid uuid sda7, better have uuid in /etc/fstab.

if so, may cause of problem. directory /boot/grub contains legacy grub's stage 2 , menu.lst configuration file, without grub not work. know "something happened" was? other files have listed kernel-associated ones.

let's have closer @ system. boot live ubuntu cd, ensure connected internet, , go site:

download , run boot info script - instructions on page - , post contents of results.txt file between [code] , [/code] tags clarity. simplest way of doing highlight output , click on button in message toolbar.

1 last thing. version of ubuntu running on live cd?
