Thread: finding and killing a ghost package

a friend of mine called me in try sort out problem encountered while trying install canon printer drivers described in forum:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1582497

when try follow instructions following error message software center:

dpkg: error processing /home/susanne/desktop/cnijfilter-mp280series-3.40-1-deb/packages/cnijfilter-common_3.40-1_amd64.deb (--install):

cnijfilter-common: 3.40-1 (multi-arch: no) not co-installable cnijfilter-common:i386 3.00-1 (multi-arch: no) installed

read mean somehow installed 386 version. problem is, none of listed in synaptic , can't figure out anyway uninstall 386 version. worse, i'm not sure if that's need doing.

out there know heck going on over here?

i suggest this: remove canon drivers using synaptic. check here on how install ppa add repository canon drivers: https://sites.google.com/site/tipsan.../canon-drivers. @ bottom there's section on how add ppa , install correct canon driver.
