Thread: Hybrid Graphics ATI/AMD Discrete & Intel Integrated Cards

i have amd radeon hd 6700m series graphics card , 2nd generation intel i7 processor integrated graphics controller. having issues getting amd card work. whenever try updating drivers , installing catalyst, system crashes, , can reboot terminal, not gui. have tried several methods of getting card work listed on forum , on other sites, although it's possible solution out there didn't find. 1 thing found haven't looked switcheroo command. think trick? anyway, common problem ubuntu 11.10 (oneiric) , unity desktop , there ideas troubleshooting this? appreciated.

related bit of found interesting was not able compiz work until went bios , change option "dynamic" "fixed" how operating systems handle 2 graphics cards. amd card disabled in ubuntu, i'm assuming intel integrated card 1 chosen after set option "fixed." after doing this, compiz , compiz fusion worked, 3d cube rotation , everything. nice have more powerful amd card working though.

'fixed' uses discrete amd card, , since have installed catalyst, way work. it's performance, not battery.

can verify you're using amd card looking @ /var/log/xorg.0.log

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
