Thread: Newbie needs explanation how backups are done in Ubuntu (Kubuntu)

i'm using kubuntu 11.10 64-bit. have 2 partitions (root + home).

how make backup can restore system exact state in? know use clonezilla make image. 'home' on second partition more 200gb. don't want save home folder. example, have 100gb of files in download. these unimportant , don't want them backup.

want make backup of system , how configured it, including software installed (and how configured software).

on top of that, don't have external hard disk. need re-partition hdd , reserve space system backup? things have backup settings of system, installed software, plus settings of software, without saving other files 'pictures', 'video', etc?

, how restore such backup?

you need separate partition (if don't have external drive). must careful later nto format or delete during reinstall.

simplest way use linuxmintbackup tool: http://www.webupd8.org/2010/07/insta...nt-backup.html

can settings , when /home can select want , not. different parition (you created before) or external disk. note here if it's data (e.g. pictures) can copy it, not need special tool it.

more backup options including bare metal bit bit backup see signature...
