Thread: Partitioning advice for Dual-Boot setup

hi,
installed , used ubuntu before wanted ask expert advice how partition hard drives, since bit @ lost what's purpose of different partition.
pls. keep in mind want dual-boot windows (want fresh install of windows7, feel free tell me 1 first.)

machine (not sure info relevant, so...):

i7 64bit 6gb ram (i downloaded ubuntu-11.10-desktop-amd64, though 32 bit seems recommended?)

1 tb hard drive (would nice if windows , ubuntu can sit in "minimum" sized partitions required , rest of drive accessible windows , ubuntu. if possible of course)

in advance!

ps: purpose of this: i'm typical .net developer, but had run php/mysql few years back.
getting bored , want dabble php , since add new skill-set figured want go lamp instead of wamp. (plus fed re-installing "trial" windows every few months.)

(want fresh install of windows7, feel free tell me 1 first.)windows

if -
windows , ubuntu can sit in "minimum" sized partitions required , rest of drive accessible windows , ubuntu
absolutely no idea how space win7 need, inclined 20 gb ubuntu - assuming keep data in "rest of drive"

if want hibernate you'll need swap=ram

- perhaps

space w7 - extended - logicals ubuntu - swap - shared data

32bit recommended people not knowing using don't wrong 1
