newbie ubuntu , want know command "add-apt-repository"... why used? also, please explain each component of following command :

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gnome3-team/gnome3

add= add lol
apt= advanced packaging tool
repository= "garage" of web lists download ubuntu gnu/linux software, can updated automatically or manually
gnome 3= introduction of gnome shell
ppa=personal package archives
gnome= gnu network object model environment, pronounced gah-nohm

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
