Can't Alt+double click to open an image?

hello:                                                                                                             level: newbie  id:cs6  os:win8

 

i have read win8 compatible id, ps , illy (i'm not sure other cc apps hope too)

 

however, while following vid tut terry white ~ directed me click on image , hold alt key while double clicking open in full(er) view when did image opened in windows photo gallery

 

well, earlier had gone default programs , set windows photo gallery default open images ~ not knowing prevent id functioning or override (apparently) else (yes, pretty new os's in general too) did b/c when go pictures folders , click on image view opening in aweful program depixelated (<is word?) /made pics/images terrible.

 

so, called microsoft , man trying me said had go "associate file type or protocol program" , had choose each , every single file type (.png, .jpeg, .tiff etc etc) each , every application (adobe or not) , "associate" file type application need open ... um ... caugh caugh ... moment .... scream!! uh, what? really?

 

dear goodness ... please ain't so!! please?? (lol)

 

so, deal? or else think may have been directed incorrectly?

 

i went default programs remove windows photo gallery default program not seeing option.

 

i totally understand isn't windows8 forum if has experince w/it , willing/able me out appreciate advice may able lend. plan go run around net after i'm done here (a needle in haystack) in win8 forum (yikes & wo me)

 

oh, (nice) man @ microsoft couldn't tell me if went ahead , did rather windows photo gallery still open pictures or not or if return awful preview program began in 1st place.

 

this 1st time using indesign , start learning it. know why cannot alt+2's click & have image open it's suppose to? or how go telling windows8 please let id open files way wants?

 

sorry such long post. have been through nightmare episode ordering new laptop , win8 seems creating entire season

 

thanx in advance time , efforts. continue quest answers , should find 'em return share , post links.

most id users prefer have edit original open photoshop, should able go default programs, select photoshop, , associate image types of choice.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings. how do I change the e-mail address for my merchant account
