Homemade camera profiles

as adopter of dng profile editor , user of chart wizard creating d300 profiles camera raw, have used each successive version has been released. worked quite d300, , definite improvement on profiles supplied acr, although had give bit of values, taking mode of few saturation readings , adding bit of manual tweak lightness.

 

i acquired d800 in march, , headed outside on first sunny day gm colorchecker take few shots. used latest version of dngpe generate camera profile, seemed improvement on adobe standard in terms of colour accuracy , balance. however, couple of weeks later, noticed unpleasant banding on boundaries between colours. decided sacrifice accuracy aesthetics, , ditched profile.

 

i guess chart wizard isn't accurate enough needs, or patch transforms few , extreme can't provide smooth transition between colours. doing wrong, or known limitation?

 

are there plans new version of dng pe? sort of question no 1 allowed answer?

we continuing work on internal camera profile-building methods, of may find ways updated version of dng pe in future (but no timetable @ present).

 

in short term, issue you're running couple of color control points close together, sacrifices smoothness in exchange degree of hue/saturation control can achieved.  solution move (manually) control points bit farther apart, , make nearby control points have less-strong adjustments.  in other words, if have 2 control points near each other , result in dramatically different adjustments (one yanks colors 1 way, , other yanks colors way), cause "stretching" problems in areas around colors.
