Need Help "Thinning-Out" Text

novice ai user here.  hoping can walk me through how tackle issue…

 

i have logo comprised of hand-drawn letters exist outlined vectors in .ai file.  trying find out if there easy way make each letter bit “thinner”. have been achieving digital purposes adding stroke each letter matches color of background used on.  workaround has been effective in getting want becomes problematic when preparing files printed applications (t-shirts, stickers, etc.)

 

is there easy way somehow “thin-out” letters equivalent amount of girth stroke appears take off of each letter?

have tried offset path? can use create new, thinner path inside existing one. delete original path.

i using ubuntu desktop on lucid , keyboard changes british keys american keys, #/£, ~/| , "/@ around. in system->preferences->keyboard menu have set keyboard uk. when log via putty uk keys come out right. there other place more configuration required? /vfclistsguy actually settings should enough.. can try setxkbmap -query see current layout settings.
