Thread: Clean Install of 11.10 fails on post install boot

hi,

have dell gx620 single 320gig sata drive in it. able boot installer off usb stick no issue. while going through installer partitioning screen. things little wierd me.

i'm not new installing xnix distros, first time i've seen /dev/mapper taggings partitions rather /dev/sda (on desktops anyway). create single ext4 partition mounted / , swap partion. eveything else seems ok when goes reboot throws me grub rescue prompt following error

error: no such device : ab3eb93f-109c-480c-ab60-2c51e1a981b
grub rescue>

if try access partition in grub resecue tells me unknown filesystem if access "liveusb" boot can see data no issues.

if @ /dev see /dev/mapper/ entries mapped /dev/dm-0,1,2 smells me thinks array of sort rather straight disk.

if fdisk /dev/sda see partitions sda1 , sda2 don't exist in /dev

have suggestions? have wiped drive , tried 6 times in last couple of days, tried creating partitions manually fdisk , using them install gui.

?

thanks

dave

maybe grub entry written wrong? try this fix in easiest manner (done few times, worked flawlessly)
